Plant the right way..

Far too often we see, how the choice of the plants is a money issue, making the price the fact with top priority, and the quality of the plants a less important fact. In these cases rather many of the plants needs replacement after the first year. It is however rather costly to replant.

Better economy does not often come from the cheapest plants..

Application for grant:

Making the application can be a bit confusing. We will gladly help you.

Plans for planting:

To do the planting right in the first try, you need to get the best possible plants for the area. Climate and soil taken into consideration, so you get the kind of plants that will grow well in each particular place.

Considerations before planting:

Much should be taken into consideration before deciding to plant a large or a small area.

Under this, we have 9 facts to consider before planting, to help make it a success.

Purpose of the planting

Is the purpose to create an area of esthetic, to make a commercial cultivation, to make a borderline of trees and/or shrubs to break the wind off, to protect the crop,  or any different purpose.

Choice of area

How are the conditions of wind, the slope of the area, the quality of the soil, and the risk of frostbite.  For example: Noble fir do not thive on soil with too much moist. And the purpose also needs to be taken into consideration when choosing the area: How much work is in the keeping of the area, and is this area accessible with maschinery. The latter is of great importance ,for instance in production of christmas trees.

Possibilities of grants and deductions ?

These years there is no grant for christmas trees. On the other hand the christmastrees are deductable. Grants for planting crop protecting borders, grants for forestry, and grants for converting from conifer-forestry to leaf-forestry are available.

Planting on time:

Is the time of year coherent with the choice of plants and the convenience of the soil?

Making the area ready:

Is it better to do a pre-cultivation, or to spray with chemicals or mechanically cleanse the area from weeds, to plough with trenches deeply into the soil, etc.

If you wish not to use chemicals, it would be wise to plough in trenches. A pre-cultivation of lark, birch or alder would be a good choice, in which case cheap plants in wider distances would do. Later the real cultivation can be proceeded, for example beech, oak, etc.

Choosing the plants:

Which species, providence and size are you to choose? Will you use chemicals to treat and maintain the area, or not? Mekanical cleansing requires larger plants and is financially more costly to do. In commencing forestry more difference in size is acceptable, whilst growing christmas trees needs much more homogeneous size.

Choise of supplier:

There is immence difference in the professional level and in the serious attitude of suppliers. The best thing to do is to go directly to the grower and to see the plants beforehand. You plant for life:

Price and quality is bound up with eachother.

Approval from authorities:

Local restrictions can be of great influence on the planting plans. Restrictions on cultivation, for example in areas close to a public road, etc. Also there are rules of limitation to precisely how much one can plant i the total area of farmland.

Caring for the crop

How is the quality of the soil? Is the area easily accessible with machinery? Is the cultivation to be ecological or not? Will the area be cleansed by sheep? Fencing the area often will be necessary in producing christmas trees and starting forestry.
