Plug plants are considered to be both a supplement and an alternative to the traditional bare rooted plants.

The plug plants started as seeds in a Jiffy 7 or an Elleplug, in which the plants are grown in the greenhouse, until they are ready to be hardened outside, before collected and planted in the final place of growth.

This way the plants are filled with power in the roots and stems, and have a smaller top. This makes the planting easy and fast, whether they are planted by machine, or by hand with a planting pipe.

With plug plants it is possible to plant for a longer period each year, with the plug plants being ready for planting from the middle of July. Using a planting pipe it is easy and painless to plant approx. 2000 new plants a day, or to replace cut trees with new ones fast, or planting new trees even before cutting.

P36 and P50 is in reference to the size across of the plug, in millimeters. Different from the bare rooted plants, the roots of plug plants are not suffering from sudden changes due to growing and planting. The plug plants have the plugs, filled with the little tips of roots all round, only too keen to get out and connect to the soil and collect water and nutrition. It keeps growing, making branches to equal a ‘traditional bare rooted plant’ before the season is over.
